Plowing
Where the snow goes, what to do about the city plow berm, and what to settle before the first storm.

Sidewalks, steps, and entries cleared and treated with ice melt so nobody slips on the way in.
Ice melt only does its job if the snow is off first. Spread over an inch of snow, it digs a few small holes and turns into slush that freezes again after dark. On a walk cleared down to the concrete, a thin, even layer can get to what is left and keep new ice from bonding. That order, clear and then treat, is how we handle sidewalks, steps and entries. It is also why this work does not come off the truck. A plow blade cannot reach a front step or the narrow walk along a storefront, so those need a snow blower or a shovel.
More melt does not mean more safe. Heavy piles of it track indoors, burn the grass along the walk and are hard on the concrete. Water soaks into a slab, expands when it freezes and pops the surface off in flakes, which is called scaling, and deicers can make that worse on weak or new concrete. Concrete groups advise keeping them off a slab through its first winter, so tell us if you just had a walk poured. Roy has plenty of older walks too. About four in ten homes here were built before 1980, according to the Census, and worn concrete deserves a lighter hand.
The trouble spots are the ones that stay wet. Steps under a roofline, entries on the shady side of a building and low spots in a walk all catch meltwater during the day and freeze again at night, so a walk can look clear in the afternoon and be slick by morning. When you ask for an estimate, tell us which doors people actually use and where water tends to sit. For a business, that usually means the main entry and the path from the lot. Walks can go along with your plowing too: plowed, walks cleared, ice melt down.

Plowing, walks, ice melt, salt.
Used lightly on cured concrete, it is generally fine. New concrete should skip deicers through its first winter, and older walks that are already flaking need a lighter hand. Tell us if either one applies.

Yes. We clear driveways and walkways for homes around Roy after a storm.
That’s the whole idea behind the name. One crew keeps your grass sharp in the summer and your driveway clear in the winter, so you only make one call.
